The BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems degree is designed to develop your knowledge and expertise in the analysis, development and application of socio-technical systems, with a deep understanding of the importance of information technology and computing in society.<br/><br/>You will be exposed to the state-of-the art theories, technologies and research that will shape and transform society over the next decade. You will gain a solid grounding in the theoretical foundations of information, technology and systems applied to modern business environments. At a higher level, this programme will prepare you for graduate work by showcasing the impact and importance of information systems to the UK and global digital economy.<br/><br/>The course begins by developing fundamental programming skills and moves on to apply these skills on web-based applications. Broadening options will address the design of information systems for global business, data and knowledge management, multimedia and interaction, marketing, strategic management, cyber security and business intelligence.<br/><br/>Graduates are able to operate as software developers with an understanding of the critical importance of business information systems to global commerce.<br/><br/>This degree has been accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. An accredited degree entitles you to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.<br/><br/>We offer this programme with two study options. You can choose three years full-time or four years full-time which would include a one-year professional placement between years two and three that will give you hands-on experience in a real-life working environment. This sandwich year would give you practical skills that many employers seek, giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.
